PASIFI - Baby Safety Tips
The Palm Bay Police Department is on occasion dispatched to an address where there has been a baby death. It is heartbreaking to everyone involved and even so for the responding officers, detectives, and crime scene technicians. In our training, we learned that not all baby deaths are caused by SIDS (Sudden Infant Deaths). SIDS can be erroneously assumed in baby deaths and our department has become enlightened to the fact that there are times when babies suffocate, overheat, or are abused to death.
Therefore, the Palm Bay Police Department has reached out to new parents and caregivers in an effort to PREVENT infant fatality. We have named our program PASIFI which stands for Prevent Accidental Suffocation in Infant Fatality Incidents.
On this site there is a short presentation offering tips to prevent accidental suffocation of your baby. There is also a brochure with statistics of interest and other pointers to help keep your baby safe. Please take the time to view this information and follow up by researching the web sites referenced.
It is our hope that by offering baby safety tips on how to prevent baby suffocation we will do our part to save lives. We may never know how many lives are saved, but we feel confident that some will be saved just by practicing simple prevention measures.
