The False Alarm Reduction Program…Positive Results Continue!

The False Alarm Reduction Unit of the Palm Bay Police Department continues to succeed in reducing false alarm activation response by our Police and Fire Department first responders.  We have attained a cumulative decrease of over 66% in false alarm activation responses covering Fiscal Years 2000-2008. This represents an overall improvement over false alarm responses dating back to 1999, when we reached an all time high of over 6,600 false alarm activation responses!

Prior to the enactment of Palm Bay’s False Alarm Ordinance in October 2000, public safety responders answered in excess of 6,600 false alarm activations with no relief in site. However, through the combined effort of the False Alarm Reduction Unit staff, the support of our Police Officers and Firefighters, the awareness and concern by many residential and business alarm users, and the cooperation from leaders within the Alarm Industry, the total false alarm activations in Fiscal 2008 decreased to 2,246 false alarm responses. This number represents combined false alarm responses by both Police and Fire personnel. This is an overall savings to all taxpayers of the City of Palm Bay in excess of $300,000 in man-hours and equipment usage for Fiscal 2008! With Palm Bay’s False Alarm Reduction Unit quickly approaching over 12,000 Registered Monitored Alarm Users, we will continue to move full-steam ahead with the most up-to-date proven methods of false alarm reduction that become available.

To all residents and business leaders of Palm Bay who maintain a monitored burglar and/or fire alarm system, we truly thank you for your cooperative effort in reducing needless and costly false alarm activations!
