Movies in the Parks - Fri., Aug. 27 at Fred Lee Park
Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and join us at Fred Lee Park for Movies in the Park. This month's feature film will be Furry Vengeance (rated PG) on our 20 ft. movie screen, starting at 8:30pm. This is an event for the whole family, with all movies rated G or PG, and admission is free! Each month Movies in the Park will be held on the last Friday, and rotate to a different park. The 20' Epic Outdoor Cinema System was donated to the City by the Alpizar Law Firm in Palm Bay. For more info, please call (321) 952-3443.

Palm Bay is a 2010 Playful City USA Community
Go Play! Palm Bay has been named a "Playful City USA" community by KaBOOM! for the third year in a row.
KaBoom! is a national non-profit organization that empowers communities to build playgrounds, with the goal of a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America. "In Palm Bay, we are serious about play" (Joe Fazekas, Recreation Division Manager). Palm Bay is one of only 118 communities that have each demonstrated creative commitments to the cause of play and earned this title.
You can help win $25,000 for a park upgrade!
James McGriff Park is seeking a few good fans in order to win $25,000 for playground upgrades through a contest hosted by KaBOOM! KaBOOM! has teamed with Parents magazine so that your favorite park or playground has a chance to win an innovative Imagination Playground in a Box funded by Foresters, a life insurance provider that champions the well-being of families. The Parks and Recreation Department has listed James McGriff Park as the "playspace" of choice on the contest website, and needs as many fans as possible by August 31, 2010 in order to win. "Support Our Troops" Makes a Difference
The annual "Support Our Troops" rally on May 15, 2010 at Veteran's Memorial Park included the 300 attendees signing multiple banners to show their support of our local Armed Forces. This photo depicts one of our Florida National Guard troops stationed in Africa with one of the banners. Thank you to everyone who attended the event and brightened the day of these brave men and women!
Pet-Friendly Parks in Palm Bay!
Palm Bay now has six City parks that have been designated as pet-friendly: Bill Madden Park, Dewar Park, Liberty Park (shelter and sidewalks only), Lynbrook Park, and Stearns Point Park. For more information, please call (321) 953-8912. Locations and amenities for these six parks can be found here.
Community Gardening
The Nemo Community Garden site islocated on Salmon Drive NE and Nemo Circle NE. The Public Works Department will be clearing approximately a one half acre area of the parcel for the community garden.
The Palm Bay Community Center now has monthly membership rates! Just $10 per month for Palm Bay residents, or $12 per month for non-residents (all ages). Call 952-3443 for more info.
