Palm Bay is a 2010 Playful City USA Community

KaBOOM! Logo

Go Play! Palm Bay has been named a "Playful City USA" community by KaBOOM! for the third year in a row. KaBoom! is a national non-profit organization that empowers communities to build playgrounds, with the goal of a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America. "In Palm Bay, we are serious about play" (Joe Fazekas, Recreation Division Manager). Palm Bay is one of only 118 communities that have each demonstrated creative commitments to the cause of play and earned this title.

You can help win $25,000 for a park upgrade!

James McGriff Park is seeking a few good fans in order to win $25,000 for playground upgrades through a contest hosted by KaBOOM! KaBOOM! has teamed with Parents magazine so that your favorite park or playground has a chance to win an innovative Imagination Playground in a Box funded by Foresters, a life insurance provider that champions the well-being of families.  The Parks and Recreation Department has listed James McGriff Park as the "playspace" of choice on the contest website, and needs as many fans as possible by August 31, 2010 in order to win. Check out the contest instructions to learn how you can help!

"Support Our Troops" Makes a Difference

The annual "Support Our Troops" rally on May 15, 2010 at Veteran's Memorial Park included the 300 attendees signing multiple banners to show their support of our local Armed Forces. This photo depicts one of our Florida National Guard troops stationed in Africa with one of the banners. Thank you to everyone who attended the event and brightened the day of these brave men and women!
